DTV stopping DNS

Can someone explain to me how to get local network programming with Directv? I currently have Distant Network Programming. That is being cancelled on 6/1. I called and the rep told me the only way to get network programming is to stream it. I find that very hard to believe. Help please !
  • Local programming should be available over the air ... what channels do you get on your broadcast antenna? Dish used to sell a little add-on module that would tune OTA channels through the satellite receiver.

Here's an article on it:Local Programming going away?
  • I move my receiver from home to RV. When in a different local area I call, ask for technical support and they change the locals. You will need to give them an address and maybe the county. I always tell them to change the service address only and not the billing address.

When I return to a previous area I also tell them it's in their records which reduces the call time. ie I keep a list of prior locations.

That sounds like a typical know-nothing answer from a DTV rep. For years many of us just call and get our locals changed to wherever we are by asking to have our service address changed. That doesn't always go smoothly however.

I also see many people going to Dish network because they are much more adept at changing your locals for you.
  • With Dish it is easy to get local major network channels no matter where you are, either with an quick phone call or thru their phone app. OTA network channels are not always available depending on your location.
  • You will not get network anymore unless you change your address ... that is not easy with direct. The comments about dish are accurate that Dish allows you to move your service address at Will giving you the locals near where you are are. Dish is very rv friendly.
You can use your rv’s OTA over the air antenna to get the locals near you ( if you can) , change to Dish , or buy a streaming package for about 50 bucks that duplicates your direct account ( IE youtubetv which is rv friendly allowing hotspot access etc ) assuming you have unlimited hotspot internet access. ( not easy or cheap) or “move” to where you are now on directv .... a real hassle from what I’ve observed ..... but if if you don’t move much it might work ... good luck. Directv has abandoned its mobile customers and in my opinion, you are sol
  • In the winter when we go to AZ I call DTV at the “moving my DirectTv” Number. Tell them you moved to your winter home. Takes minutes. The idiots on the regular support line are useless. If your full time it may not work too many times.
