Why would you tie yourself to a cable? Most providers bundle Direct with phone and internet. But then again so many people are dumping their land lines for cell only, you might reconsider the whole situation, sat tv, cell phones, and then internet only for home. Also look at verizons home phone connect for 20 dollars a month.

Pay the $5 month
You can get stand alone DVR but it will be connected to the A/v output and record 4:3 SD converted signal, and will have to be programmed separately from the cable box
If you want to record HD, and program it using the cable remote ...rent the cable DVR
You can Buy a CABLE box with DVR from scientific Alantic that will accept the control card, but it will cost approx $500

Verizon home phone not available. Bundling the package does little to lower the overall cost. $10/month. Time Warner is offering a 12 month package of everything I currently have at a savings of over $100/month.
