ExpressCard/54 will not stay plugged into laptop

I have a HP laptop. It does not have USB3.0 ports so I got a ExpressCard/54 that has USB3.0 ports. I use the ExpressCard/54 to connect an external USB3.0 hard drive that I use for backups. The problem is that the ExpressCard/54 will not stay plugged in. The smallest amount of vibration and the card will loose connection with the laptop. Thus my backup does not complete.

I have tried 2 different ExpressCard/54 cards. Any suggestions?

    Well that is kind of different than what you initially said.
    Do you REALLY know that it stops working because of a loose connection.......or are you assuming that ??

    Perhaps something under the card to support it while it's plugged in. It sounds like the slot is a little loose and allowing the card to move enough to unplug itself. Maybe a bit of tape around the card to make it fit more snugly. Pretty much a kludge, but it sounds like the slot is the problem.

    Is the laptop still under warranty?

    No button, simply push in until it locks in. It work for a while then it will stop working.

    Set your back up to happen after you go to bed using the USB 2 port without the adapter. My backups are set to happen automatically after midnight once a month.

    doesn't that card slot have the button to eject the card are you sure your pushing it in hard enough to lock it in?

    Do you specifically know that you will be getting USB 3 speeds? What model of HP laptop are you using?

    There is a "slot" on the side of the laptop. I think it connects to the motherboard.

    How does the Express Card connect to the laptop? USB port? Surely not through a standard USB port. That would be silly.
