Flip down monitor with HDMI

I have searched everywhere and even email a couple manufacturers with no reply.

I have an older RV and no wall space for a TV. I have a 19" LCD in the bedroom area with a satellite receiver and BluRay player. I installed a PC in the dash and have a BluRay drive installed and can play movies on the screen (17", 4:3 old style).

What I want is a 19"-24" flip down monitor to mount on the roof just behind the cockpit. But I am not finding anything with an HDMI jack! I can find flip down monitors all day long for less than $250 and some claim 1080 resolution. But they only have video composite in. How they can claim 1080 with a technology that is limited to 480 I have no idea.

All of that said, has anyone seen a flip down at any of the RV shows that can take an HDMI and HDCP compliant signal from a BluRay player? I can't believe I am the only one on the planet that has this want.

Here is a reent pic of my not yet finished Ham radio install and the PC mentioned above:
  • I think I found a solution that may work. Not the quality I want, but it will allow me to run everything on 12v.

This flip down monitor is 25":

And this converter will take the HDMI from the in dash PC (it has an HDMI output) and play on this monitor:

I would much prefer a monitor with an HDMI input, but for the few times per year we want this, it will work fine.

Shutterstuff, your refurb mh link is broken. Can't see it.

Thanks for letting me know! Try it now. It seems Google changed the way links work to Picasa.

  • I should also mention, on top of overall thickness, one of the reasons I want the automotive style flip down monitor is they run on 12v.

I did find this one, it's just a bit pricey, but it is nice: :B
    Motorized ceiling TV mount

LOL. I actually saw that and felt it was a bit much for the RV. But they are again, 4.5" deep.

I still want one for the bedroom at home! Alas, my wife said no...

FYI, they are a few hundred less on Ebay.
  • i think you are going to have to 'custom' fabricate your own mount, no springs, no large elbow hinge, perhaps a flat plate that bolts to the back and extends to the top of the display, where the hinge will be mounted
and use a TV or monitor of choice

you will need some kind of locking pins or bracket to hold it up, flat against the ceiling when traveling,

I don't know why you are insisting on a monitor since any TV can be a monitor these days. Furthermore, are you asking that the flip-down aspect of the problem be resolved by the monitor itself? Why not just buy a pull-down mount and put any TV/monitor on it.

The only fold down mount I found needed about 5" including the thickness of the TV. I have a 25yo MH and the ceiling is low as it is. We would hit our heads on something that is this thick. Most fold down monitors I have found are less than 1.5" when folded.

This is the style of bracket I did look at:
