Hard drive for vip 211
Looking for a hard drive with power supply for a Dish VIP 211K to turn it into a DVR. 500G to 1T. Having a hard time finding a powered hard drive. Would like some brands and model numbers. Thanks

A lot of the "USB3" external HDs are no longer coming with external power supplies. Instead they are depending on the USB3 port to supply the power (USB3 spec allows up to 3A at 5V) OR in some cases may have a "Y" cable with 2 USB plugs on the PC side in order to make them "compatible" with USB2 and lower power specs..
Looks like the 1 TB My Book does have an external power supply..
BUT, looks like that is a USED or "REFURBISHED" drive..

Finding external drives less than 2 TB that HAVE an external power supply are getting pretty hard to find..
To get external HDs with less than 2 TB you are getting limited to 2.5" laptop drive size.. And most of those use the port to power the drive.
