I'm not a sports fan and I don't watch many movies so I ditched DirecTV years ago and haven't missed it a bit.
Even though there is a lot of sports available over the air it's not near what is available on satellite and cable. The sports junkies won't jump ship until live sports becomes available via the internet.
As far as TV stations increasing power during sports, no stations in the US are allowed to do this. The FCC does not allow this. Any additional stations that happen to show up is pure coincidence.
