How does the computer connect to the modem. Pick one
RS-232 (a 9 or 25 pin "D-Bell" connector
Cat-5/6 (a large version of the common modular phone plug)
Wi-Fi
In the first two cases modern computers do not need any special drivers, or adapters they should be built in, at least the LAN (Cat5/6) adapter..
IF WI-FI.. there are multiple types of Wi-Fi encryption and not all do all.
OPEN (no password or pre-shared key needed)
WPA as I recall this is an older method I have one adapter that won't do it.
WEP 1, 2 and I think now they have 3,,, Most modern boxes do this.
Make sure you have the right version and the right PSK. you can use a different connected device to figure it out.
