The Verizon in the area we camp in is 3G only. I can pick up a hotspot with unlimited Verizon 3g for $5 a month. Is it usable? We don't stream, just don't want to have to go get a cup of coffee after I click waiting for a page to load.When it comes to Sprint and TMO 3G, a strong 3G signal will be faster and more stable than a weak LTE signal. They max out much slower but more than fast enough for the forums and such. I think I have read that Verizon 3G maxes at 1 Mbps and that should be fast enough.Search Verizon 3G unlimited on ebay to see a number of hotspots with the $5 a month plan.

Hi--have been using Verizon prepaid hotspot purchased from Ebay for about five years now. DW and I both use the same hotspot and I stream all day long with no problem. It'll work just fine!

I used Verizon 3G from about the time it was added until we stopped full timing a couple of years ago. It wasn't bad at all - most web pages loaded fast enough that it wasn't a problem The only exception was when we were in an area where a lot of people were using a given tower at the same time - Quartzsite AZ during the RV show for example. It slowed down enough to be a bother then.

Grandpa and I use VZ 3g exclusively. I can tell you that with good reception and low traffic I see spikes up to 2.5 mbps, with average speeds roughly 1.5 mbps. With poor reception and/or heavy traffic it is not unusual to see 500 Kbps or less. A "typical" decent connection is in the range of 800 kbps to 1.1 mpbs.800 kbps is good enough to stream SD video from amazon or dishanywhere.com. When you see sustained speed in the 500 kbps range you can expect buffering.If you don't have a Wilson Trucker antenna, get one and mount it high enough for a clear shot. I have one mounted on a short pole and I can go from 2 bars to 4 bars just be walking it around a bit.

Hi Jim,Be aware that all the cell companies are moving away from 3G in their towers. Other than that I found 3G adequate for all my needs. Congestion is an issue with all cell networks.

There are basically three plans on that page, all unlimited 3G. One set goes for $15 a month and you pay them. Another for $5 a month and somehow it is taken care of through pre paid Verizon cards. The third I ordered is $5 a month but no mention of the cards. I'd rather pay them than buy cards.

How would I go about signing up for this Verizon 3G Plan with unlimited 3G Data for $5.00 a month? I am currently a Verizon customer with a 20GB (3G/4G) plan that costs me $100.00 a month.

This sounds almost too good to be true. I'd like to find out how to sign up and what equipment I'll need, etc - so if some one would be willing to help me with that info, my PM box is open or post the info to this thread, please!

I probably won't be able to stream movies w/ 3G, correct? But as far as chatting, checking CNN.com and doing email - it sounds ideal!

How would I go about getting a setup like this from Verizon? I'd like to have a 3G connection with unlimited data for $5.00 a month.

I currently am a Verizon customer with a 3G/4G hotspot (former Millenicom user) that costs me $100.00 for 20GB of data per month. The overages are about $12.00 per GB if you go over

Thank you all. I think I will go for it even if it wont last forever. The TMO never gives me better than 3G speeds with a tower 15 blocks from the house and is useless at rush hour. It's a cheap plan but only if it's usable.

We have a Verizon hotspot, notice a difference when it is in 3G vs 4G. Who cares when all we do is check the email and weather or sometimes the RV forums.

Most places we camp, others are also only getting 3g and they say what's up with that?

I answer, "I don't know, I'm getting 0g with T mobile".

I was hoping that it would be fast enough but I knew the Sprint 3G is different than the TMO so I had to ask. As long as most stuff loads normal, unlimited is unlimited.

From looking at our previous spots on the coverage maps I can tell you that it will take AT&T, TMO and Verizon to have coverage at all of them.

The answer to the OP's question is that Verizon 3G is a lot faster than Verizon 1XrTT which is only slightly faster than dialup (remember that kind of connection?). People's definition of "is it usable" has changed dramatically over the past couple of years. Those of us who first learned to surf the internet at 29.9kbps rarely complain about connections as fast as 3G! Everything is in the user's perspective.
