You can still do it on Google Earth, but Google Maps has this and more.
In Google Maps, go to location you want to see an aerial shot of:
Then click on the "Earth" icon in lower left corner of window and you see:
Then zoom in with "+" icon in lower right to get a closer look:
Then you can drag the yellow/orange human figure in lower right to a street to see a street side view. The view can be rotated for a 360 degree view of what is on that street.
You can't see some of the screen icons I mentioned because my screen clips don't include the whole window.
