- JaBobExplorerI never had a problem in 3 years. I know some folks want security, if so go the steal cable route.
Bob - GoPackGoExplorerI bought 30 ft of chain and two padlocks for my Winegard X2 and secure it to something on my 5er - the ladder, landing gear, etc.
I agree about not being able to stop someone who really wants it; I just want to stop the guy who walks by at 10 PM looking for something he can easily carry off. These things are bulky, but real light.
Tim - EsoxLuciusExplorerActually, it is the receiver and a remote that is needed, not the just remote. Even though a receiver is necessary to use a dish, the dish itself is worth several hundreds to thousands of dollars. Then all the thief needs is a receiver to use the stolen dish.

Thats exactly what I'm eluding to also. It has a remote control that allows you to program the dish to find the satellite and that combination is unique to the pair. In other words, you could steal the satellite cube or dish but you wouldn't be able to program it to find a satellite without the remote.hershey wrote:
Isn't the remote control unique to a dish? The dish by itself is useless without the control and if you can't buy a controller you can't use the dish???? Someone correct me.
What we're talking about are the small carryout satellite antennas that you'd use instead of a regular manually pointed satellite dish.
Most of these are designed to work with any satellite receiver although some are specifically made for a certain satellite provider (DISH, DTV, etc.) - pappcamExplorer

- EsoxLuciusExplorerI've got a Winegard Carryout G2 which can go on two places (front and back) on the roof of my RV. I use a telescoping ladder to put it in place. Someone would have to pull on the cables to get it off and they had better be a good catch to not damage the unit.
- kellertx5erExplorerI have an old 18" round dish which mounts to a base made of scrap lumber. If you have storage space perhaps you could get a spare dish in case of theft. Less than $50.
- RobocopExplorerDepending upon the CG and/or distance I may throw a light chain on it. I also bought a cable $29 that alerts when the cable is disconnected from the satellite cube. Of course if I am not inside the RV when that happens it does no good but in the middle of the night it would be a rude awakening. But as others would note, it is rare to see someone walking through a CG with a cube or tripod in a manner that is truly suspicious.
- dahkotaExplorerIf I'm worried, I put it on my roof. Most of the time, nothing.
