Installing Car DVD stereo in 5th wheel, bypass needed?

If you have video on the unit then you should have video on the TV as long as you've hooked up video out to the TV's video input and selected the proper input on the TV.

The bypass adapter I used tricks the unit to bypass the safety feature that disables playing a DVD while moving. Since an trailer doesn't have a park break or other sensor the unit assumes you're moving.

Since you are able to see video on the unit then I'd assume thats not the issue.

On the pioneer unit, you will need to wire a toggle switch in the ground (brake) wire. Flip the toggle real quick to fool it into thinking the brake is on. Just did this to mine. **** the lawyers.

What happens in a car if you simply turn the key to "ACCESSORY"..

In the 5-er that will be your status,, ACCESSORY

I did not check through the setup-menu options to see if it is possible to disable that feature. You can google the make and model followed by the word Manual, it will take you to the pioneer web site and there you can download the PDF version of the manual.. IN fact. I suggest you do this..

Then you can read what it says.

If you need a pulse,, A simple SPDT momentary push button switch will provide.

Movable (Switched) lead to pale green lead

N/C to Ground
N/O to 12 volt (via a small light bulb for safety)

My understanding is that is not as simple as that. The newer players will not work by simply grounding the wire. It requires a pulse on the wire. In a car this is done by having the parking break on when first turning the ignition on, then releasing the brake. If the brake is off when starting the car it is necessary to first apply the brake then release it giving the player a pulse. This is what the bypass adapters do. When first powered up it generates a pulse on the light green wire.

But I may not need to do anything if the DVD's will play anyways on an external television and be blank on the players screen.

Oh... The answer is easier than you think (And I would never pay for such an adapter)

Your In-Dash multi-player will have a wire that is dedicated to something like "Parking brake sense" or "Transmission" or "Ignition sense" this is different from the memory and accessory power leads.

Depending on how it works (And truth be told I do not know) you either ground it, or hook it to power or leave it N/C and the unit works normally.

To "Sense" vehicle in motion this lead has to be connected to a switch..

Found it, in the owner's manual.. OK, how to do it.

On the power harness is a light green wire.. Connect to Ground for a 5-th wheel install (Manual says must be connected to POWER SUPPLY side of parking brake switch, you do not have a parking brake (Well you do but its for emergency use only) so connect it to ground.. That is your bypass adapter.. A simple screw.

Most modern automotive DVD players will not play a DVD unless your vehicle is not moving. Since a 5th wheel does not have a parking break to hook the DVD players sense wire to the player would always think the vehicle is in motion and thus not allow a DVD to be played. Companies sell bypass adapters that trick the DVD player into thinking the car is stopped at all times.

My question is whether the player will work fine in a 5th wheel without use of a bypass adapter if playing DVD's only on an external television.
