iPhone/iPad from a die hard Windows user

To start with I have been using an iPhone/iPad for years. I know people love their Apples and that's great. There are numerous good reasons to use Apples products.

Apple does make great products, but they're just not my 'cup of tea'. I like to know what's going on with a device and have more control over it than "There's an app for that..." Right now I am looking for an iPhone/iPad app similar to the Window filemanager/explorer. I want to be able to look at files, rename, move, copy and delete just like I can in Windows. I've found a few. None of the free apps seems to able to do what I want. I've found numerous that claim those capabilities but cost $3/$10. Now I don't mind paying for an app. But having to buy an app only to discover it doesn't do as claimed is so frustrating and trying to get it 'return' just doesn't work for me.

OK I got my whining out of the way. So finally the question.

Does anyone know of or is using a filemanger app on their Apple device. If so does it work and would you recommend it?

Thanks
  • I use Cloud on for "cloud" files but for shares on Windows machines I use "Documents" to connect to the windows SMB share.
  • AFAIK, the only way to get low level access is to jailbreak it- all I have jailbroken is my 1st gen iPad, but I can see, move and modify every file on it, as well as changing the root password (which I consider mandatory).
  • He said "rename" and "move" etc..
I think he wants to rename and move files "On The iPhone"
Not necessarily upload and transfer/sync them

That's why I left iPhone. I want my phone, tablet, laptop and desktop to all act like what they are; computers. But, iPhone and iPad act like mp3 players. Grrr. Otherwise, IMO, apple mobile products are top-notch!
