ITunes Probs?

My ITunes playlist on the computer has 56 songs that were copuied from CDs. Only 28 of those songs transferred to the IPhone5 using ITunes Match.

On the ITunes playlist on the computer, a light shaded cloud (not the dark cloud with the arrow in it) appears by the title of the songs that did not transfer to the phone.

Why didn't they all transfer?
  • :S Thanks and sorry about putting you folks thru the effort.

That cloud meant that it was waiting to be downloaded.

So I had other problems and fixed that in the process by rebooting the modum.

    Happy New Year
  • iTunes has several ways to select a particlar item for a device, making it easy to think you have selected it by one criterion, while you have blocked it as part of anoter category. Particularly if you think you've selected it by playlist but have deselected the album.

Another way you can miss things is to have selected "only what I've bought."

I don't think Match has to do with loading to the player. Match is about replacing what you've ripped with a copy of the same item from the store. If you are loading only what you've "Matched" then I would expect not to get what was ripped but not matched.

I think iTunes is way too complex for most people, it has been made too much of a heavy-duty management tool, and doesn't always fit the way you think of your library, so you can get messed up fighting the tool to make it do things your way rather than iTunes way. But almost all specialized data management tools have that fault, you notice it only when you have the personal mismatch with the guy who designed iit.
  • I've had some oddities myself with iTunes. Some songs will not transfer. Others end up with multiple copies.

I probably will give up soon and just manually shovel the files from my Mac to my iPhone, since I know that does the job.
  • I'm not an expert, but there are possibly several reasons. I'm not sure which version of iTunes you have, but I do know that songs will not transfer unless either you have the preferences checked to transfer all songs automatically, or you have set specific ones to transfer by selecting them one at a time.

I believe that "transfer all" is unchecked by default, and that means you have to tell iTunes which ones you want on the iPhone. Most folks have way too many songs in there total list to keep them all on a phone or iPod.

To specify which to transfer, the iPhone has to be plugged into the computer, and you have to go to the iPhone settings in iTunes.
