I searched Microsoft and Google but could not find an answer.
The question is how long after a new MS user accept a referral from a friend does it take for the 500 Mb of addition free storage to appear on the friends account?
A little history. I am new to cloud storage (saving files off my computer). A few months ago I started to run out of space on my PC and I was starting a new project that required 5 other people to comment and approve a number of documents. In the past we have simply email the documents back and forth. I thought cloud storage would be a better method and I would not need to purchase a new HD with all the problems of transferring files. My first choice was Google Cloud because it gave 15 Gb of free storage. However a few of the documents (created with MS Word) are heavily formatted using MS Word Styles. While Google Docs is a very good word processor for "limited formatted" documents -- it fall short with heavily formatted or Word documents formatted with Word styles.
Thus we switched to Microsoft's One Drive which only has 5 Gb of free storage. Because we were so pleased with the editing (could continue to use MS Word) ability of One Drive, early this week I invited by the link below a friend to also use One Drive. I have yet to see the addition of the 0.5 Gb of free storage. Before trying to get an answer directly from MS customer service (not the best in the world) I thought I would try my RV friends.
