Mifi same as phone hotspot?

Does a. Mifi card pull in the same signal as using your phone as a hotspot?
We have Verizon...
  • Technically, it's the same. There may be some variation in signal strength, etc. Also, when your phone is busy doing other tasks (such as an incoming call or text message) you may see a slow down in your internet speed.
  • Yes its the same they are using the same communication chipsets, some units may offer an external antenna but they are rare and expensive.
  • I also have Verizon, I use a AB called pdanet+ for a one time fee. I have wifi for free for laptop.

    Short answer YES.

Long answer: Though the MiFI and the cell phone both use the same towers and signals, In theory both should work equal to each other provided they are the same "level" (G3-G4-G4 LTE) and generally this is the case..

it is far easier to set your Mi-Fi in a sealed box on the roof or up a flagpole if you need to than it is your cell phone (Height is Might in the signal game).

Plus an incoming voice call, Depending on your phone, may shut down internet till the call is completed (or not) and with a Mi-Fi the call comes in on a different device.
