I have THIS CHANNELMASTER DVR. I has a program guide for my OTA channels, and works a lot like a Dish Network DVR. You do need the external hard drive. It works well.

I got it when I replaced my Dish Network with a good antenna & Netflix.

using a USB video input card
that will capture a/v input and record it in mpeg or mp4 format

but then you then a MEdia player connected to the TV or a PC to play them back
although some DVD players have USB input and will play video files from a USB stick

those are very nice units..with a good reputation
BUT they don't record cable..hdmi
i'm not sure if they record from A/V or not

the OP seems set on recording cable/satellite TV which means use "THEIR DVR" or find something that records from a/v input

When I researched DVRs that could record HD OTA, I found the new Channel Master DVR+ to be the ticket. There are pros and cons with this unit, but you can record HD and there is no monthly charge unless you want a channel guide that is 2 weeks out, if I recall. The basic channel guide is 2 days - no charge.
The unit is only 8"x10" by 1/2" tall. That'll fit most RVs!

problem is
in the OP he was looking for SMALL DVR for the RV.. record at home and take the DVR in the RV
i don't know if he has the space in the rv for the magnavox

there used to be some 'tiny' digital recorders no tuner..that would record A/V input directly to SD memory card..and played from there
that might be an option, if they are still available

his choices are really limited considering the equipment situation

About the only option for recording Dish satellite will be the Magnavox DVR and record the composite video (yellow RCA connector) out from the sat receiver. You will not be able to record the HDMI output because that will be copy protected. The Dish ViP211Z receiver only has HDMI and composite outputs and your TV has no HDMI input so you will only be able to watch standard def satellite on the TV. The Jensen JE1907 and the Magnavox DVR have ATSC tuners so you don't need a separate OTA converter box.

Your best option would be to upgrade to a Dish DVR with local TV channels.

No DVR yet as that's what I'm considering.
