OnStar 4G LTE data provided by AT&T GM Vehicles

AFAIK there are still two options available.

a) a $20/month unlimited data plan billed monthly, don't recall if it is a 1 year contract or not
b) the $20/1 gig, etc that is good for at least a month, maybe even a year.

Give onstar a call or you can go to your onstar link and see the details and sign up as you want.

I just called onstar this morning for the same reason. I am taking a 4 month trip to Alaska and I am going to use the onstar unlimited plan for 20 dollars a month. There is no contract, you can keep it as long as needed and then cancel.

Just curious, Why would you use this over a hot spot through your smart phone?

Hi Scott, we use Tracfone, guess we are kinda ancient, we use Onstar on the road, my Co-Pilot uses her tablet while I drive and I use my laptop when we stop for overnights, this unlimited Onstar will work perfectly.
And it's cheap!

Canuck Travellers. I think you will find that your Canadian bought truck will not be supported by AT&T to get that great $20.00 deal.If you find a work around please let us fellow Canadians know as we sure would like to get in on that deal.

Curious how you keep the OnStar from draining the vehicle battery? I have left the truck connected to the RV if I have shore power. This provides at least some recharge to the truck battery. I have also hooked a stand alone smart charger to the truck battery. From doing this it appears that the OnStar radio and other phantom draws when the ignition is on total 6.5 amps. Since we mostly use the internet at night, the 160 watt portable solar panel is not an option.

onstar will only operate with continously if the engine is running.

Otherwise the phone/wifi will either

a) turn off when you remove the key from the ignition and open the drivers door.
b) turn off after 15-20 minutes after the key is removed from the ignition and the truck will go to sleep mode.

when I want to run wifi with the truck off, I get in the passenger side, turn the key to on, turn key back to off, get out passenger side. wifi etc. turns off after the 15-20 minutes or so.
