Sounds like a browser hijack. What browser extensions do you have installed?

So if I uninstall internet explorer, Is it an easy move to download a new one. This puter came with it loaded as I think most do.

you don't need to uninstall ie
just download and install Firefox, add the 'adblock' plugg in

You won't be able to anyway.

to go online and download Firefox or other browser

besides uninstalling IE is next to Impossible, its part & parcel with windows explorer which is what runs your desktop

Check to see if IE's pop blocker is turned on. Next, go to Tools, Manage Add-Ons and see what you have installed. Disable anything that you do not want.
Next, go to Tracking Protection and enable ABine, Stop Google Tracking and ETrust. These should resolve your popup problems.

Another way to test whether a browser extension or toolbar is causing the popup ads is by using IE's InPrivate Browsing function.





In IE, click Tools > InPrivate Browsing or use the shortcut CTRL+SHFT+P, and try going to the same sites you normally visit. InPrivate Browsing disables extensions and toolbars. Are you seeing any popup ads? If not, then its likely being caused by an extension/toolbar. If still seeing the ads, then may be the result of an installed program. In which case, go to add/remove programs and look for any suspicious or unknown programs.

With your help I just about have it under control.

Now, say on the post where I typed internet exp0lorer. Those two words turn into a link and if you happen to brush it with the mouse a screen pops up about downloading it.

This is common now with a bunch of word combinations - can anyone give me some help here with this latest annoyance?
