I am not paying to watch commercials on cable, should be free just like radio with all the adds they have.

In defense of the cable/satellite providers, their business is delivering programming. They receive no revenue from the ads carried on the programs they deliver, and in fact have to pay the program suppliers to carry those programs. And those "carry" rates keep going up each time a contract is renegotiated. When they take a hard line on rate increases, the program suppliers cut off access to the programs and the customers start screaming "Bring them back!" until they give in. The Congress critters are the ones that created that mess. Do I like the current rates and the regular increases? No! Of course not, but I do understand how the program re-transmission business works under the current rules, and how important it can be, especially to those of us in remote areas where good OTA reception is a myth. I believe Internet streaming of programming will eventually replace traditional cable and satellite services, but that opens up a whole new can of cost worms.
