Refergerator Purchase

I'm a recent new Camping World member. About a month after buying the membership our refrigerator went out. Called the CW store in Lake city Florida to check on the price of a new one. After checking the price on the Camping World website (about $1100) and not being able to find how to order online, I called CW in Lake City.
After getting the particulars of my unit, the salesperson said they had two in stock and the price would be $1600+. NOT installed, just the unit. I reminded him of the CW online price and asked how to order and was met with a blank wall.
Was told he just checked the price and it was $1600+.
Needless to say, I'm sorry I bought the membership as I will NEVER use it.

yes, understood. But there are so many that aren't.

From your subsequent post you said the issue was resolved. It seems customer service jumped right in and contacted you. Was their assistance helpful in getting you what you set out for ?

The issue with CW was NOT resolved. Never heard from customer service.
I bought a new cooling unit from RVCool.com.

Not a refrigerator, but we bought a washer/dryer from CW online, picked it up at the store in Tucson, had them install it and they even removed the old one.

They honored the online price, did the job in 2 hours and it was done cleanly, quickly and properly.

We're experienced and informed but we've had none of the bad experiences some people refer to. I often wonder if these are the result of their own actual experience or "I heard from someone who heard from a friend's friend" stories

I don't know about anyone else but the experience I reported was my own.

  • Thanks to all who replied to my rant. The situation has been resolved.
I was just pointing out a severe problem that there is at CW.
Like ScottG, I don't understand their business model either. To try and make an informed major purchase at CW is impossible. If you are informed, you just realize how much of a rip-off they really are. I have to agree with Mesteve, CW does seem to be after the "quick uneducated dollar".

Oasisbob, the price comparison was 'beans for bean' and NOT apples and oranges. We were dealing with exact model and serial numbers.

Administrator,... I realize there is a difference in the cause of different prices from online and store pricing. But CW online and a CW store is still the same company. While I expect a difference in price, I also received NO HELP in how to get the online price either. My original contact WAS to find out HOW TO PLACE AN ONLINE ORDER. That question was totally ignored.
Again, the website was like looking at a catalog and had NO WAY that I could see to place an order.

My advice for other RVer's that are looking for a replacement refrigerator because a defective cooling system, contact the folks at http://rvcool.com/. Wick, is the name of the owner, I believe. RVCOOL sells rebuilt as well as NEW cooling units. If you handy with tools, you can replace the cooling unit yourself. It is a sealed unit so just a matter of removing a few screws and swapping out the bad unit for a new or rebuilt unit.
  • I can honestly say I cannot remember reading a positive review of a Camping World experience from anyone that has been in the hobby/lifestyle for any length of time.

It really does seem they are out for the quick uneducated dollar.
  • I don't get the business model at CW. It seems to be the strategy of getting customers that don't do much research and buy from CW because they have "camping" in their name or they are the perceived expert in the field. Or people who just want to do business with someone in the hobby - like I do.
The thing is they are so far off the mark when it comes to price and service that it makes loyalty almost foolish. The on-line vs in store pricing issue that comes up so often here pushes the point home.
With buying power of CW's many stores they should be able to rival Amazon and any other retailer in price. They should be consistent with their prices where ever you buy and you should be able to count on any CW service.
  • Thank you for your Post michigancamper1945,
Prices do vary from online to In store due to various factors. But, I would suggest calling our Online Customer Service agents. The Online customer service line is 1-800-626-3636. Our agents there can assist you in ordering the Refrigerator at the online price as well as answer any questions you may have about the unit.
Let us know if you have any other questions.

  • That is quite a price difference. Even for CW. I wonder if it was a different model or # ? Personally I rarely buy anything from CW as I can always find it for less elsewhere.
