I have the Lowes Iris system on my trailer. Without broadband the cameras are useless, but at home I have door contacts on both entry doors, and all the hatches, as well as a motion detector in the front bedroom, living room, and garage. All are wireless / battery (almost a year on a battery). There is a cell usb adapter from Verizon? for the hub. The service I have is free (no extras) so you would only be on the hook for the cell connection - whatever that costs.

I'll second the simplisafe option.. Should work great as long as you are in the cell providers coverage area. $15 /mo - $25/mo depending on if you want the text alerts.

I use the Simplisafe system in my RV. It has door and window, smoke, temperature sensors etc. Install it yourself in a few minutes. It uses cellular, has text alerts for power failure etc. The text alerts work great as you know instantly of power out etc. I have been using it for a couple of years with no issues. It is wireless so you change batteries every year or so. It also has remote keychain fobs. It has a keypad to use inside the coach.

The few times it has activated, my mistakes, they called rapidly. The only problem is they want to call police but since I never know where I will be located they cannot. Sometimes if we are going to be in one location for a few months I will call and change the address so they know where I am located. It also has a cell phone app you can check the inside temperature and activate and deactivate the system. We have dogs so the temperature checking along with power failure feature gives us peace of mind in the summer.

It does have a monitoring fee but it is low and worth it to know the dogs are ok.

What are you wanting to protect? If you want to just deter a smash and grabber, the above mentioned IR sensor is useful. If you have firearms and such, consider a strongbox mounted to the frame and hidden somehow (as well as a policy rider because given enough time, a thief can bypass anything.)

A cellphone backup will be expensive and monitoring can be $250 a month, and the police may still take 10-30 minutes to arrive, and by that time, the burglars are long gone. There are RV alarm companies out there, but they can get pricy.

If one really needs a secure place, I've seen one idea that might fill the bill. Take an enclosed cargo trailer with a detachable hitch (they are usually a custom fab job, but they are out there.) Optionally get CG permission, and then sink a cement anchor flush with the ground under where the trailer will be. Move the trailer over it, put the trailer on jackstands with secure pads, detach the wheels, use a security chain underneath to fasten the trailer to the anchor, then remove the hitch. Finally, for the "out of sight, out of mind", stick some skirting around the trailer. The result is essentially a permanent building because that trailer is not going anywhere without some heavy equipment. To boot, reversing the process isn't that bad a task either (remove skirting, attach hitch, attach wheels, unlock chain underneath, remove jackstands, check electrical systems, hitch to vehicle and be on the road.)

Of course, doing this with a trailer is a lot of work, but for a seasonal person, it can result in an outbuilding with decent theft resistance, especially if the doors have the hasps for the round "hockey puck" padlocks.

This is what I have, cheap and works. I also use it for the bed of my truck when connected to my 5th wheel at nit when I have two Honda generators locked and running. Works well.

How about a good insurance policy? By the time you or law enforcement responds on scene, it's already over for all intent and purposes.

Here is something that may work for you. Has good reviews. It's a home system but should work for an Rv on a seasonal site with shore power.

Yah, it's kinda overkill unless you just can't live without it.

Best advice is to take home everything of value and leave the door unlocked. Seriously.

Wow, camping in downtown harlem?

I use to install alarm systems in the 90s and a cellular based system or wireless radio system will cost you major money to install plus monthly monitoring costs. Is this campground in that bad of an area? It may be cheaper to change campgrounds.

Those cell and wireless based systems were all backup to the telco and the only people that had them were the very rich or businesses like Jewelry stores.
