SPAM?? "Your account will be blocked ...."

We got an email today saying that our Yahoo ATT email account will be blocked from sending and receiving email if not confirmed within 24 hours. It also said you are required to update through the link.

It looked like it was from ATT Support, but I didn't trust it so I deleted the message. Anyone else get the email?
  • I get several emails supposedly from my internet provider telling me I should verify my account. I send then to the email provider's scam department, never click on them.

    1492, it was from "AT&T Support(angelbrownsugar@sbcglobal.net"

The names says everything? Likely someone who created or spoofing an account to scam other users. This email address appears on spam lists.

  • No one will ever send you a legitimate e-mail request of this kind. You might get something that says your account had been hacked and you should log into your account but there will NOT be a link! Hover over ALL links from ALL sources (even trusted) and ensure it actually links to the expected site. Say you get an e-mail from Bank of America. Every link will be something like this https://www.bankofamerica.com/planning/investment.go (did not make the link active intentionally). However you may get an e-mail where the link is www.bankofamerica.banking.com. If you click on that link you are going to the "banking.com" site (the name just prior to .com) and not anything related to Band of America.
Personally, I don't click on ANY e-mail link! Period! Even when I am pretty sure that Bank of America is sending me a legitimate e-mail I close the e-mail, open the BOA website and proceed from there. I may be overly cautious but I have never been hacked!
  • I keep getting messages in my rarely used Yahoo mail that my account will be deleted in 24 hours if I do not upgrade NOW by clicking on the attached link!
Been getting them for months and simply delete them.
My Yahoo account is still there!
  • I've gotten a number of those "You must confirm/update/change your account info." type messages. For the most part, they've been for places I don't even have an account. SPAM...
  • SCAM! Getting your email password is the least of your worries. They will download malware, keystroke loggers, etc if you click on the link. Don't do it!

We got a call on Saturday from a scammer in India telling me my computer software warrantee was expiring and my computer was going to crash in 45 minutes unless I purchased an upgrade through them. I immediately recognized it as a scam so I hung up. He called back demanding to know why we got disconnected. So I decided to have some fun with him. I would get him off topic and he tried so desperately to get back on topic. After 10 minutes he insisted my computer was going to crash in 45 minutes. I asked since we've been talking for 10 minutes wouldn't it crash in 35 minutes? I had him running in circles for 20 minutes. I have to say it was fun.
  • Scare tactics are common among hackers attempting to get you to reveal your account info. Otherwise, known as social engineering malware.

Don't click on any of the links in the email. Do you know how to read the email headers? If not, you can forward a copy of the email to me and I'll take a look if you desire. Send me a PM for email address.
  • Not that exact one, but I got one saying that I had 5 million dollars waiting for me in a Nigerian Bank. Said all I had to do to claim my money was......
