Straight Talk wi fi hot spot

It's probably the result of poor coverage.

Have you tried it at home? If it works at home, the cell coverage was probably too weak at the campsite. If it doesn't work at home either, then it's something with the unit.

My Straight Talk hotspot works perfect and I'm so pleased that I can save $$$ using it.

The best way to communicate with Straight Talk is online chat from their website, under support.

The $15 a month card works for me...

The old UMX hotspot is a different rig than the newer one they have out now. The new one is 4G LTE... it's way ahead of the older one they had.

When our UMX hotspot works, it is great. However, we frequently find that our iPads will connect to it but it throttles back our network connection which causes the web site to time us out. I do not think that is a lack of coverage issue. We were at Smith Mountain Lake State Park in Virginia for four days. The first two days it worked perfectly. The next two days were quite vexing.

Two nights ago in Asheville, NC it was useless. The past two days in Nashville, TN it has connected fine.

I quit using the old UMX hotspot... the new one is so much improved.

I am using one of the " old " ST hot spots right now in the Keys. Last used it in May. We got to the Keys a week ago, added a 4 GB card and it has worked fine since. GB don't seem to last as long as in the past but it is probably just us. We both spend a bit of time on the internet. Anyway, it works fine ( on Verizon )and is fairly cheap entertainment lol.

No I just went and tried it and I have 4 bars on my phone so there must be some thing wrong.

That sounds like a low battery. Even with no cell signal you should be able to connect to the hot spot. My Straight Talk hot spot will shut off like that if the battery is low. If you are just looking at the lights on the hot spot, they do go out by themselves after a minute or two. Hitting a button will turn the lights back on again.

I have an old UMX unit that I added data to before our trip to Yellowstone this past summer. I called customer support & got it done, but after hang up my iPad would connect but my laptop wouldn't. Called back & representative I got said she had to reset my laptop (whatever's that meant) but afterwards it would connect. There were times on the trip that I could connect & others when it never did. If we were driving I would put it on the dash as close to the windshield as I could get it & that seemed to help. I assumed that the signal wasn't strong enough when it didn't work, but I expected that to happen due to our locations.
