update or replace
Just a quick question. How long do Garmin GPS last on the norm? Debating whether to spend the money to do a one time update or just replace it. It is a mod 255 and about 5 yrs old. Thaks for any and...

My GPS is over 7 years old and going strong. Updates used to be for free now they are not. IMHO, JMHO highway funds have been cut so drastically that there just is not numerous "new" highway building that there was years ago.
I full time and when I hit a stretch of new highway the graphics on the screen get a little squewed but the satellite picks up the new road just fine and the directions are corrected.....all "without" downloading new maps for over 7 years!
So I don't see any need to buy a new one. Plus mine has so many bells and whistles they don't make one anymore with all the options I have to replace it.
I say keep it. IMHO it's a giant scam making the consumer think they HAVE to upgrade or buy the new model they have out or they will never arrive at their destination.:R
