It's easier to have the GPS say "turn left in 500 feet" then have to constantly look at the GPS looking for the next turn. I'd rather keep my eye on the road then the GPS.

I can no longer see any use of any kind for paper maps with the online resources that are available and much more up to date. However, I am not saying you should not continue to do as you please. It's a free Country and all of the responses here are correct for someone.

I have owned several GPS... Magellan and Garmin.

I switched to Garmin... as I went thru 6 Magellan's in 5 years.. thanks to warranty.. No added cost.. Thank You Best Buy. and Yes.. Garmin is/was a warranty replacement on the last Magellan.

I have a 2597LMT.. looking at the RV760 with backup camera with 50 foot cable

I have a Peak 3 1/2 inch backup camera on the truck.. helps big time connecting truck to trailer.

is there a telephone app for a tablet?

That's really funny! Different strokes for yada yada, I guess. If I had to depend on that annoying bint's voice to get me there I'd need double tranquilizers at the end!

i haven't tried off-line maps with Google in awhile so maybe they improved things? When I tried it, they only let you download the map data for about a 10 mile radius, if your route took you out of that area you were out of luck.

Why do people insist they need large screens for GPS? My favorite way to use my phone is to program the route (most often using voice commands) and start navigation, then blank the screen and put the phone in my shirt pocket. I can hear the spoken directions fine like that and rarely ever look at the screen.

You can get any size smart device you want. The iPhone 6+ is nice for a phone, but why not get an iPad mini, iPad Air, or iPad Pro? They have sizes to meet you exact desire.

Mounting is a cinch in a truck. You can buy a mount that plugs into your CD slot in your radio. It's completely out of the way.

Finally, you don't have to pay air time to use many GPS apps on the iPhone. Google maps and Waze will both download the entire trip to your tablet / phone when you leave (assuming you are connected to wifi). You won't get updates, but you wouldn't need cellular data, either.

I completely understand someone without a smart phone feeling exactly as you do. I did as well, until I had one!
