Why am I getting all these pop up ads??

When viewing different posts, I will see certain words appear underlined and in blue and when you mouse over them, an ad will pop up. Also, I am getting other video ads popping up in the lower left corner of the screen. I ran malwarebytes and superantispyware but am still getting the ads. Any suggestions as to how to get rid of these?
Using firefox as a browser.
Thanks

In another thread... In another place.. Some people were talking about those symptoms.. Turns out his computer was infected with a virus. Alas I can not give you more info as I did not "record" it (memorize).

I do not see pop up ads here But then I take action against them.

Suggestion: Find a copy of a program "MalwareBytes" Install it (Free version) and run it.. NOTE: Be careful of Bundled crapware,, Seems everyone is bundling crapware these days.

Or Go to Staples and ask them to plug in their MalwareBytes.

Toolbars can also introduce Adware in your browser. Personally, I don't recommend installing any toolbars as most are designed to track browsing behavior and send the data back to developers, or their affiliates.

I had the same thing some time ago. I found the cause to be an add-on, I think a plug-in, but not sure. I forget it's name but it was pretty obvious. I deleted it and all was well.

Check Firefox add ons. They have a good one called "ghostery" also one called "adblock". Try them out. You can always dump them if you don't like them. Ghostery tells you who is tracking you and you can block them. Adblock does just that. Blocks ads.

Wyo,
Thanks for the tip in Ghostery; I just installed it. Nice Firefox add-on.

For Firefox, Adblock Plus is the best out there IMO, and it will get rid of those ads and more. It runs in the background....Dennis

I haven't been able to find any underline text link ads on forum pages. Also, a quick check of a few forum pages using Firefox developer tools shows no scripts for underline ads. My guess is that you have an extension, or picked up adware embedded in Firefox config file that are generating these popup text ads.

You can try using Adblock Plus extension, but should really get rid of the offending adware.

Since this thread does not appear to be specifically related to a forum issue, I'm moving it to Technology Corner.

and have you noticed that the pop ups are tailored to your specific needs/wants or what you have searched for in the past. Very clever...

I use Firefox also and there is an option to hide or remove popups. Try this: Firefox help on popups
