I have updated a W/8.1 Acer computer to W/10 back in September and have no problems! I bought a tablet that has W/10 and no problems. Quite pleased with it, especially over 8.1. Have an old Dell that is not qualified for an upgrade, downloaded the GXW Control Panel and shut off the upgrade. It has W/7 Pro and will leave it unless Dell makes it compatible before the 07/31/16 freebie!
