Winegard portable antenna-HD on Directv

I know that Winegard Anser and the Carryout models do not have HD capability when capturing the signal from Directv. But I was wondering if anyone has info that they or Directv would have the capability of capturing HD in the future. I am considering purchasing one, but am hesitant until I am sure that there is nothing in the planning. And yes I did call Winegard and they said there is nothing that they were aware of, but that response is kind of wishy-washy.

Also, I would like them to delete the need to have power to the unit, similar to what they designed the Pathway to do.
  • If I knew that I would be a millionaire! Trust me, everyone has tried but no one has been successful. By the way, the 3 LNB HD antenna has 1 KU band and 2 KA band LNB's built into a single head.
  • Bill,

I appreciate your response. I have a question regarding ka and ku bands (and I don't have any clue what these are).

I currently use a 3 lnb satellite dish to set up my receiver. I have a "B-Band" filter. Why can't directv or Winegard make something like that to capture HD?

    Just wondering.

The nature of domes is you wont get DirecHDTV,, DISH HD yes, DirecHD no.

Just set up a portable dish, easy to do and gets it all.
  • There is no dome style portable antenna that can now, or likely ever will, receive the DirecTV HD programming. Due to DirecTV broadcasting their HD on the KA band frequencies and the dome antennas only capable of receiving KU band frequencies the satellite antenna manufacturers have not been able to figure out how to receive both KA and KU programming with the tiny dishes inside.
