Winegard makes and add-on for the Sensar (Batwing) called the Sensar Pro. Not only does it detect the channels but allows you to accurately point the antenna before you do the required channel scan allowing for reception of maximum channels. It also has a secondary amplifier built in so when you are in areas of weak reception you can pull in otherwise unusable channels.
The good news and bad news is that the Winegard antenna IS more directional than the Jack. That means when you are in an area with channels coming from multiple locations (you are in the city and towers are spread around) you will get more channels with the Jack. However, when you move out away from the cities the towers are now all in the same general direction and the more directional antenna will provide you with better long distance reception.

I can't speak for the Wingman Sensar but I can tell you that no, the Jack does not detect channels. Based on many recommendations of other members here I also bought a SureLock signal finder (made by the same company that makes the Jack) to help find the strongest signal.

Awesome! Thanks for the report. We get test our new Jack antenna out tonight! As trb46 said, it takes longer to climb on the roof than it does to actually make the swap!

They only make one that is a direct replacement for the Winegard batwing: Jack antenna replacement head.

Depending on how you do the math I did even better or not as good as you.

I upgraded my batwing. (Sensar II, plus Wingman Plus Sensar pro) Still have the original Batwing though.. Went fro 1-2 channels to over 25 in the same parking spot.

(you got more channels.. .but you had more to start with, On a improvement basis I'm way higher in percentages)

I bought my Jack antenna from Amazon. It took me longer to climb up on the roof with my tools than it did to swap the antennas. Installation couldn't have been easier. Channel count went from six to twelve. Works great.

Sounds like he just changed the antenna head on the stalk so he still needs to raise/lower.
