Although you are better off with a Costco/Walmart group 24 IMO.

As others have said, the battery powers the brakes in case of separation of TV and 5th whl.

Also battery connection is needed for the operation of the landing jacks. You can certainly pull it. You just won't be able to hitch up or unhitch without the completed circuit.

Yes, certainally it can. But as others have said a battery is necessary for the break away system to be functioning. Heck, most every new trailer is deliverd without a battery.

Illegal in most states because of the break away brakes. :)

Battery is required to operate the brakes in case of a brake away disconnect.
