www.expeditionportal.com - stickdogExplorerI started thinking about it last century, okay 1999. Retired 2010. I learned much just from this and other Forums. There is much good information and a lot of not so good. It's your job to figure what is best for your situation, what is pure BS, what applies to weekenders, what applies to fulltime. So many choices are personal, MH Class A,B,C, 5 wheel, trailer. Do you want to or need to workcamp? Would you want to volunteer? Do you want a homebase? How much does it cost, how much do you have.
- Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIWe 'planned' for about 3 minutes
Had a conversation about FTng and decided lets do it.
Took 6 months to get gone.
Making an 'exit plan'
Finding/buying rig (ended up ordering what we wanted)
Getting rid of everything (family/friends---then an estate auction)
Selling house (45 days)
Establishing 'domicile'----set up new address on-line then got new DL's went we got there. - mds1Explorer

Eight years.
One thing to consider in planning are parents ages and health.
My dad died about 4 years ago and mom two years ago. That changed my attitude about the future which became a factor in changing the way I planned to retire.
I appreciate you reply message, all good points well taken. - sdianel_-acct_cExplorerdefine long range. 2 years? 10 years?
we planned for 4 years while we traveled part time. Took early retirement, sold house right away, sold, donated or trashed most of household goods, moved back to home state, traded gasser for DP. One thing to consider in planning are parents ages and health. Many people have to postpone going full time to help care for parents. So the plan has to be flexible. We didn't just have a plan, we worked the plan for the years prior to becoming full timers. We found it less stressful that way. - mabynackExplorer III'm retired from the AF and will retire in civilian life in a couple of years. I've been planning on trying the full time life for several years now. I bought a 34 foot fifth wheel and an F-250 in preparation for my retirement. Both will be paid off by the time I retire. I'm already mapping out my first trip from Florida to Alaska.
- donn0128Explorer IIPlanning is half the fun to some. You can also plan things to death. Over the years I have seen some planners die before they could actually do. Make your planning stage short, and actually DO!
