First camping trip: Success!!

We went on our first camping trip with the new TT 2 weeks ago and it was great! A group of us took 3 TT's and 11 people up to Tyler State Park in Tyler, Tx. The weather was great and we had lots of fun just hanging out around the campfire.

We made breakfast burritos in the mornining using the outdoor kitchen, it was nice to have all the room and not be confined to the inside of the TT.

Activities included a day trip to Canton, Tx first of the month trades days, a little bit of sight seeing at the park and a lit bit of sitting around the campfire talking and BSing. I didn't expect Tyler SP to be as nice as it was, I hope all other parks can live up to the expectations now!

Setting up was a breeze and I learned a thing or two from the other more experienced campers in the group. We all had such a great time that we have a spring trip to Fredericksburg in the plans.

The only two issues I ran into were the heater and the WD hitch. This was the first time to use the heater and it had an aweful smell. I was expecting that but what I didnt expect was that it would still smell after 2-3 hours and would cause the smoke alarm to constantly go off. Is this normal or can I expect it to eventually stop as the system is broken in?

Secondly, my equal-i-zer hitch. I didnt notice until I got to the the campground and rolled down my windows how LOUD that thing is. It was popping and creaking so loud I couldn't decide if I sounded like a junk hauler or a drive by shooter taking pop shots at every one. Needless to say, I turned a few heads pulling in.

All in all it was a successful trip and we are already starting to plan the next one.

Thanks all!
I did some research and ordered the spring arm jackets and the performance lube from Amazon. Hoping it won't affect the sway control too much as I read elsewhere.
I figured as much about the furnace, I guess I will have to take the TT out when I get home next month and run the heater for a while!

for sure the furnace needs some time to burn off dust, glue etc so what happened is absolutely normal. Fire up the furnace in your driveway and let it run a few cycles with windows/vents open and smoke detector disabled (and nobody in the rig). The equalizer brand hitch is a four point sway control system and can be disturbingly loud. As it "wears in" it will be quieter but you can certainly check that the bolts are torqued correctly and put a small amount of hitch lube on the L brackets and pivot points.

New TT furnace will take awhile to burn off dust and paint. Once it is done, no more alarms. First use after not using for awhile may cause just a little odor, but won't set off alarms.

May you have many more great trips!

Sounds like you made some great trip memories. A small amount of greast on the contact points, or silicone, eliminates most of the WD noise asuming it is not over tightened. Take lots of pictures. They have a way of turning into gold with time.. Probley just dust on the heater. Is it better now? If not perhaps some compressed air shot through the intake. Best to ask your dealer

Ummmm.....you did put a little grease on the hitch ball and other pivots didn't you? I've pulled some heavy loads with an equalizing hitch and it never made any more noise than a regular one. I have had a rattle from the hitch being loose in the tube of the receiver, but I slip a wooden wedge in to hold it in place.
