Getting ready to hit the road

This will be my wife and I first trip cross country, going back east on 40 and was wondering about pulling out of Albuquerque, hear it is a hack of a pull heading east? I have a ford F-350 with a 7.3 in it, pulling a 29 foot Holiday Rambler about 11,000 lbs loaded. just looking for info on it.

Thanks
  • Sedillo Hill isn't horrible but there's a good frontage rd the whole way up starting from theTramway exit or any of the exits going up thru Tijeras Canyon if you need to take it slow.
  • The hill going out of Albuquerque is not a big deal. You will be fine.
  • Given you're concerned about riding the hills, with my 7.3 I had installed a 6.0 transmission cooler and trans temp gauge. If anything will give you trouble it will be the transmission. However, I've done that route several times when I had a 7.3 with both a 36' TT and a 40' FW. Actually not much of a climb... Compared to some of the climbs out west. 7.3l is a great engine.
  • Naaaa.... stay in the left lane. That 7.3 will pass most semi's on the way up.
  • You can make it. Just get in the right lane and stay there. You may pass a semi along the way.
