We usually make reservations in advance. It is very dependent upon the region of the country and the time of year.
When school is out for summer vacation,better have reservations. Along the Oregon coast, reservations for sure. we are finding as we plan a trip back east, reservations are a must in many area we plan to visit. Some parks and getting booked for summer already. As the driver, I NEED to know where I am going to park our 36' beast. There are many Walmarts that do NOT allow overnighting due to local ordinances.
Off season, we are more adventuresome. Summertime, reservations and then for "hot spots" of travel destinations, reservations. Good luck!
