IRS and RV's: Tax Deductible?

I was told by someone that RV, if they have a bed, a kitchen, and a bathroom, can be considered a second home and thus deductible on your 1040 when you file taxes. I can't find anything about it in the tax forms. Can some one help me out on this matter?

Here. They are considered a second, or vacation home, and the interest can be used for tax purposes as long as the collateral for the loan is the RV.

Our CPA signed off on it and states that it is a standard deduction. Of course he always says that it could change from year to year.

Actually, the interest on your loan is tax deductible if it meets the second home criteria you list above. We deduct the loan interest every year on our tax return. We have our taxes professionally done.

That is how i've claimed my campers over the years. I was even able to claim my previous Fleetwood Niagara popup since it was considered self contained and had holding tanks for the bathroom facilities.

You will want to go to the topics section on irs.gov for taxes and read mortgage interest information - specifically 2nd homes. That is where you will find the information.

We do claim the interest paid on our loan for our motorhome, however, we rented our house out and are full-time, so this is our 1st/only home.

You can also get a government subsidy (tax credit) for a solar system on your RV. I deduct the interest on my RV loan. The Feds questioned my brother on him deducting interest on his. All he had to do was show paperwork that showed the loan was for an RV and they were satisfied it was legit.

Same in Kansas, have been deducting interest since 2007.

Just as a clarification, a rv or boat has to also have spaces for sleeping and cooking. Just a bathroom is not sufficent. All 3 needed before you can deduct the interest paid.
