learn me about tires

hey all. the tt I bought has old rubber on it. whats everyones preference and any ideas on a good place to get um (im in Ontario Canada) trailer is a 1991 powler 19E (4 down 2 spares around 4500lb loaded)
  • The C and D tires probably have the same number of plies. The "ply rating" thing is a throwback to the old bias ply days...

Yes but if your rims are rated for a higher air pressure (65 PSI), why not get "D" range as you'll gain two plies and probably won't pay more.

  • You're going to get a lot of recommendations for Maxxis and LT tires. Both are good suggestions. I'd suggest to cross the border and visit a Discount Tire (or similar) and see what they stock. I put new shoes on mine two years ago. I bought Carlisle Radial Sport RH in load range D. The price was right and I have a bit of faith in their construction. They are also stocked across the country so if I need another one, I won't have to order and wait for a tire.
  • I've had good results with Maxxis tires. Get the heaviest rated tire available for your wheel size.
  • Go North. Even with the exchange rate prices are lower in Michigan. We have only 6% tax in Mich compared to your 15%. That will help on the exchange rate. I would get the heaviest duty tire possible for your weight. I was in Windsor last Friday.
  • When we had trailers, I went to LT (light truck) tires, 1 size larger, and the highest load range. As for brand, back in the day, I mostly used Atlas truck tires or if they were not available Goodyear tires. Now days I would go with either Kendra or Maxxis tires.
  • Etrailer.com had the best prices I could find last year.
Get the heaviest tires you can. Presume you have 14" wheels, there are a couple D load 14" tires available.
