My wife and I are planing on buying our first RV ( Class A ) this coming year and going full time, with plans on seeing the whole USA over the next several years. For many personal reasons, we want to keep a North Carolina mailing address with an actual real street address. Can anyone out in Good Sams World help us out please?
We are 64 and 59, retired and have been planing this move for many years but have not nailed down this address problem yet.
Our email address is my49packard@yahoo.com
This is our first time on this forum posting. We hope to meet many people in the Good Sams Family of full timers over the next few years.
We are planing on going to the Atlanta Good Sams Rally in October as well. It will be our first Rally, even though we have no RV yet. We are in the process of trying to decide exactly which one we want. We have a good idea of the RV we want. Going to the Rally might help us decide. We need to nail down the address problem. If anyone can help us please do so. Thank you in advance.

You should edit and remove your e-mail address from your posting. Anyone can see it and it opens you up to all kinds of spam e-mail. You can make your e-mail address available to RV.net members thru your profile, in addition to the PM (rv.net's private mail) service.

I agree NC is a great place to RV in and around, so many places within a 2 or 3 hour drive. However, if you have the choice use a state that is more tax friendly than NC, such as FL. Why pay some govt bozo a tax on your personal property (car and motorhome) as well as a portion of your income.

You happen to be in a great location to find out first hand about FT living in an RV...Take a short trip from where you are to Lake Toxaway to the Riverbend RV Resort...Take Hwy 64 through Brevard toward Cashiers, turn right on Hwy 281 North and go to the first driveway past the Lake Toxaway Post Office...You will find a group of very knowledgeable full-timers and a mix of others willing to give information...Gary and Carol are the CG managers and will help greatly...most any day except Wednesday (Golf Day) would be a good visit...We just left there after co-hosting for the month of July...www.riverbendrvresortnc.com

We also are in NC, we use Americasmailbox.com in SD for mail forwarding. We also have a local Post office box in NC works really well.

Not to sway your issue, but if you do end up purchasing from Camping World, they will make you an Elite Member for 3 years. With that, you get free tickets to the Rally's. But I wouldn't buy from CW to just get $200 worth of tickets. Good luck on your purchase.

I intend to "rent" my S and B house to one of the kids, to keep Virginia as home of record, and to keep the address for the VA, DMV, FCC, etc... Who ever is living here can sort out the mail, and forward what is important and shred the rest.

I use the VA
Full Time for past 6 yrs.
I get my meds sent to my 'home' address and then that mail forwarding service sends them to me where I direct them....campground, Local Post Office (General Delivery). All forwarded mail is sent via US Priority..we get it wherever we are in 3 days (or sooner).

I have used VA facilitates throughout the US in our travels.
Full timing and using VA is doable.....your primary care will be via closest VA Center to the 'home' address. Be it FL, SD or TX all RV friendly states.
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Thanks everyone. I will look into the UPS and the DMV. I am prepared to use another State if I have to, but I really would like to keep NC. I am a Vietnam Vet with a lot of medical issues and get Meds from the VA who will not, absolutely never send my meds and other info to a PO Box service. I have to be careful with this. I can see several of you out there wish you could have done things like this earlier, as I said, we have been trying to do our RV Lifestyle homework over the last several years and this is one of the issues we came up with Thank you everyone. I will let you know how this all works out.

Whether UPS works as an address depends on the state. It does NOT work in Michigan, The DMV computer recognizes it as a commercial address. Both mine and my husbands drivers licenses were revoked by Michigan soon after we left.
Be careful, scrambling to find a "real" address within hours is not fun.

I have heard that UPS is a great service. You get a street address, not a PO Box. Should be good for DMV. http://www.theupsstore.com/mailboxes/Pages/personal.aspx

What we did when we had a mail forwarding service in FL was change our address. on credit cards and other accounts in plenty of time to get 2 of the following documents at your new address:
Proof of Residency Acceptable Documents for NC DMV:
Listed below are acceptable documents you can use for a U.S. Citizen:

Any document issued by this State or county, city, or the federal government;
NC Vehicle Registration Card or title;
NC Voter Precinct Card;
Military Orders/Documents;
Utility bill or cable bill;
Housing lease or contract, mortgage statement, property or income tax statement;
Preprinted financial statement;

Most FT'rs use a mail forwarding service with 'domicile' in SD, FL or TX

These mail forwarding services are recognized/provide legal physical address.

Have heard some folks use UPS.....
Not sure on NC 'residency' requirements so check with county clerk/DMV.

And you could get in touch with the UPS about their mail forwarding service..........One in Arden LINK

Good luck on your new adventure.

Our only regret....we didn't start sooner!
