Maybe there's a lesson here about tires?

My kid runs a trailer shop and tells me some pretty goods stories from time to time. He went in Saturday to do catch up on some paper work. He's not open Saturdays, but pulls into his shop driveway and there is a large trailer parked in middle of his driveway, locked up and nobody is there . A note is wrapped around the hitch. He calls the number and the guy says a tire blew and ripped off his skirting. He tells the guy he doesn't do RV body work repairs and come move your RV. The guy is 2 hours away and also tells my son his tow vehicle (pick up) broke down when he was going back home and will let him know when his dealer gets it fixed. MY kid tells him he's going to cut the hitch lock and move it out of the driveway. Then the guy says "he has no idea why the tire blew, this is second time a tire blew and ripped of the my skirting. The first time the tire blew and ripped off the skirting I had recommended air pressure. But this second time I only put 1/2 of what recommended tire pressure as a pre-caution because he didn't want that much air pressure in a tire so close to his new skirting".
  • I agree with your son...cut the lock and move it or have it towed...how self centered of someone to think they can park their trailer in lot and walk away, expecting work to be done.
  • I hope he had good luck cutting the lock. I had one on my dolly that I misplaced the key when left at a repair shop. Upon return the repairman tired a hacksaw but it wouldn't touch it. He had to get a cutting torch to do it.

  • Hey hey that me you're talking about...just kidding it's not me.

It takes all kinds to make a world!
  • As Judge Judy once told a very good looking young lady in her courtroom one day, who seemed to be lacking drastically in the common sense department; " Beauty is short lived but dumb is forever":B
  • There may be a lesson here about tires, but it's pretty well hidden :)
  • So what happened? Did you get it towed or did he come to his senses and move it himself?

Kid cut hitch lock off and put it off to one side (Saturday). Yesterday (Monday) some tire shop truck showed up and put on four new tires. Just about closing, somebody came in and said they were towing it away. Sounded to him like RV dealer closer to owners house.

It's not uncommon for my kid to get to work and there's trailers he doesn't know about. But not plugging up the driveway. Usually landscapers that start real early and something happened to their trailer, they call later to say fix it.
  • Did your kid at least tell the owner about the importance of proper tire inflation?

    I don't know.
