Hello everyone. My wife and I just joined the camper world and so far so good. My question is what size extension cord do I need to plug in my camper at home. The camper is a 50 amp and I have about 40-45 ft to reach my outlet on the house. Thanks in advance and I'm sorry for asking something I'm sure has been beat to death already. I'm just scarred to death I'm gonna fry something.

What do you expect to have running in the camper while it is parked at home?? Just to keep the batteries charged, or do you expect to run the AC, microwave and two tvs plus all the lights??

And what kind ofoutlet do you expect to have it plugged into??

In my humble opinion (IMHO) do as I did. Have and electrician install an outlet so you can run everything, including the AC. An extension chord will probably run lights only and maybe the refrigerator. Our electrician only charged $300 to do it up right.

The gasser will adjust to whatever you use, but be aware that you need a certain amount of amperage to operate certain items or multiple items. The lower the amperage, the less that can be operated. If you just want to keep the batteries charged, 15amps is just fine. If you want to use AC units, 30amps or more is needed. At home unless your trying to run AC9 and other stuff a basic 20A outlet is more than enough. With that a heavy duty 20A extension cord is fine. This will allow the batteries to keep charged and run the refer to pre cool before a trip. If your trying to connect to a 50A dryer outlet,, be awaremthey are not the same as a 50A RV outlet, and connecting to one can create all sorts of problems and expense replacing all the burned out components.

My 5'er is 30amp. I bought an RV 30amp outlet box at Home Depot, a 30amp breaker for my homes panel and some wire. Very easy to hook up. They also sell a 50amp RV box thats just as easy to hook up.

If you're not able to do it yourself, an electrician should be able to do so for an hours labor.

AC can be marginal, but microwave and electric water heater should not exceed 15 amps, one at a time.

Ok. Good. I was only asking because I have seen some people that thought they have 50A and it turned out to be 30.

Yes you can plug it into a 20A outlet. However you will be limited to what you can use. Max would be the fridge. Anything else will pop the house 20A breaker. Don't use the A/C's, microwave or electric side of the water heater.

Ok so I've got the adapter to go from 50 down to 15 and I'm plugging it into a 20 amp outlet
