Owning CLass A or C vs buying a vacation home

Keep in mind that there are programs where you can trade houses for a short period of time.
Let's say you buy a vacation home in the Nyak flats area of Northwestern Montana, and after a few years of visiting Glacier National Park, hiking the trails, fishing the streams, etc. you get bored.
So, you list your home with a trade organization, and you trade 2 weeks in your mountain home for 2 weeks in a beach house in Malibu or Haleiwa, or somewhere in the Catskills or Adirondacks.
You CAN have the travel, AND your vacation home that increases in value.

I talk to a lot of people in Quartzsite, and one fellow told me that it would be cheaper for us to get a RV park spot year round ($1,000/year) and just stay there when we come south. Nope. Not gonna happen lol I don't care if it's more expensive. I like to move around.

My parents were RVers. First in a borrowed homemade teardrop trailer, then a class "B", followed by a TT and finally a 'C' towing a VW bug. They finally found a CG near Cape Canaveral (now Cape Kennedy) that had a mixture of seasonals and full timers and swapped the 'C' for a park model on a concrete slab. They spent their winters there the rest of their lives. I inherited the travel gene.

How about buying a new coach and also buying a nice lot somewhere. That way you get the best of both worlds. You can travel and still explore in the coach and yet you can also go to your nice lot and enjoy there as well. I have thought about buying a lot somewhere that I could fix up as my own personal campground.

tenbear has the same idea we had. After I retired, we moved from a 2500 sq.ft. house in Everett, WA and bought a 1700 sq. ft. rambler in Anacortes. We're across the street from houses that are marina waterfront, we're a 20 minute walk from four different salt-water beaches and it's a small community (about 18,000) and very friendly.

We got a 26' Class C a couple of years after we moved, but found it too cramped with our two Labradors along. We moved up to a used 32' Class A an just loved it. After four years, though, we're throwing in the towel. Costs are getting out of hand and eating into our retirement nest-egg too deeply. Also, I'm 14 years older than when we started RVing.

Wandering the country is replaced by wandering the neighborhood on foot and local places of interest in the minivan.

It is a matter of lifestyle. A vacation home means spending time in only one place. Another option is to invest in a time share as there are swapping services so you can stay at different places inside the network or trade time and stay at places all over the USA or even overseas.

We like to be mobile and explore, so whether traveling in the USA or overseas we primarily stay and small inns and B&B types of places with 12 or fewer guests. The only time we stay at a major hotel is when we are in major cities and then only because we can usually stay for free with our credit card programs points/rewards.

We use the RV to stay in place that are more wild and outside of towns. We fit into the truck and camper or Class B MH segment.

No illusions as to an RV being less expensive than driving a car and staying at places. We do eat a great deal better in terms of the quality of the food by fixing our own meals instead of eating at restaurants in the USA. Overseas the overall healthiness of the food and the way it is prepared is much higher and it is a different story.

I like the last post, same movie over and over again. You summed it up well. I do have a new 2014 Silverado crewcab, I am now going to investigate part to full timing it in a lightweight TT. I guess I should visit the TT section in this website or stay with beginning RV area.
