Plumbing issues and installing of ToTo

Hello there, I bought 2012 Coachmen recently, and now I have some questions, I am a complete newbie, so I thought about consulting with you. I had a coupon on buying one of these toilets , and bought TOTO. That's like a "smart" toilet, R2D2 in the world of toilets. It's expensive, and as far as I know not easy in use. I've asked some people already and everyone advised to buy American Standard, but that's too late, so here we are. I googled this thread on this forum
https://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/27895118/gotomsg/29433043.cfm
, if anybody else can give me some advice about whether it's possible to install this toilet without a plumber
  • Sure do hope you can return it and get refund of your monies.....otherwise install that toilet in your house.

NOT the type of toilet for your RV
  • Do lots of reading before you buy anything else for your new to you RV...batteries, wiring, water heater, roof maintenance, fresh and waste water tanks, propane etc. Most RV items are peculiar to RVs for valid reasons.
  • Residential toilets have a trap to hold water to keep odor out of the house. It takes a lot of water to flush solids down past the trap into the drain. A residential toilet will absolutely destroy your water management in an RV.

The tank on the back of the toilet holds a lot of water for the flush. Driving down the road, going up and down hills, going around curves at high speed, that water will slosh out all over your bathroom. If you drain the tank before traveling, that will absolutely destroy your water management in an RV.

Residential toilets are not appropriate in an RV.
  • You will need 12" rough in wall to center of the hole.

As I recall the TOTO toilets were not "Smart" unlless you bought the optinal seat. but man did they FLUSH.

For folks with a building (House, Restaurant, Whatever) The TOTO has a 4" Flush valve. American Standard, Kohler, Et-al a 3" that extra inch means it's a SUPER FLUSH,,,, Even the guy who complains he has to flush his golden thrones 10-15 times would need but one flush. (That is something of a joke).
  • Are you trying to install this in your RV? That's a residential toilet. RV's use RV specific toilets (no tank and MUCH lower water usage) and fitting something like that is very challenging. It also requires moving the toilet flange away from the wall and is usually only done where the RV is never going to be moved again and the toilet is hard plumbed to the waste line.
