I have always done a pre-fill. After dumping I fill the bowl to the top 3 times as a measure for pre-fill. And still use plenty of water with each flush of solids. When I am home for at least 4 weeks I fill the tank about 3/4 full with water and add a cup of Rid-X, then just let it stand till the next trip out.
