- bob_nestorExplorer IIII've always gone this way myself, but on my last trip my GF insisted on taking US-50/US-287. She claimed it was the route used by the bus lines and it avoided Raton Pass. It did seem to have a lot fewer "hills" and wasn't a bad road. Plus at the time there was construction on 64/87.
- sherpaxcExplorerJust did it today. Other than the crazy crosswind it's easy.
- TexasShadowExplorer IIwe've traveled that way several times. it's two lane from Dumas/Dalhart, but not much traffic.
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIOnce over the Raton Pass (approx. 3 mi of 5-6% downhill, not continuously) it'll be smooth sailing. The Pass isn't bad at all. Have a good trip. Hope the fires didn't run you out of Colorado!
- elkabongExplorerShouldn't be a problem. Trucker's highway. Two lane in most places, but reasonably well maintained.
