Successful First Outing

Good morning and thanks to all that contributed to the success of our first outing. The arrival at the campsite was epic, as there was an fluid and epic storm providing wind, rain, and SAND!! Luckily, there was an awesome gentlemen that was able to assist with the backing up, sparing my wife from the elements. Everyone at the campsite also played a crucial role in our success, as they all seemed willing to help. I have a couple questions though, I noticed a small leak behind my toilet and part of rubber gasket on the bottom of the slideout had partially fallen off. Are trailer toilets as simple as home toilets? Also, is there any type of rubber adhesive in order to glue the rubber gasket back on? Thanks again!
  • Congrats on the successful trip!

Like the others said the leak could be the water supply or sewer side of the toilet. I'd start with the supply line and connection to the toilet first and move on to the dirty side of the toilet if you think that's the problem. The toilet uses a rubber gasket instead of a wax seal and has 2 bolts like a residential toilet. When we re-did our trailer I completely disassembled the toilet, replaced some parts and cleaned our toilet and it's not too complicated.
  • RV toilets aren't necessarily more complex than ordinary home toilets, but they are considerably different in how they work.

Is your leak on the supply side or the sewer side, if you can tell? A leak in the supply side could be something as simple as a loose fitting, the fix for which is self-evident.
  • I have had good luck using Goop adhesive on my slide seal. Glue it and tape it until dry.

The toilet has a rubber seal at the base and it's usually just the 2 side bolts that hold it down. Before removing it I would be sure it isn't leaking from the valve area or the fittings. Dry it good and perhaps even use compressed air to blow it off. Sometimes turning off the light and using a flashlight helps.
