Water tank issue

I want camping this weekend to a state park no water or electricity.
I filled up my water tank at home and used the pump for the water when I was at campsite.
The odd thing is everytime I turned on water with the pump, water would shoot out my water supply hose fill outlet that i use when camping at a campground with water supply.
Something is wrong it shouldnt shoot out the other side of camper.Is something hooked up wrong.
I also notice when im at a private campground and use there water supply I seem to have alot more gray water waste then I remember using.
When i bought trailer in for service I had them bypass the hot water heater because it wasnt working right and i didnt really need it in summer.Could they have done something wrong

It went good without the electric was different.But to me the size of size was worth not having the electric.Might do the state and federal campgroundsfrom now on

Well, I'd be careful about this. Last time I tried it, I broke the check valve. With pump pressure on it can be very hard to unseat.

Had to replace the inlet as described by others 🙂

Possible solutions
1: You can get a screw in plug designed to protect the city water inlet from Dust and debris when not hooked up, in fact you should already have one collared to it.. These actually work.

2: Some suggest this will not work, others it will
Remove the screen washer from the inlet, You will see a plastic "Button" NOTE.. YOU WILL GET WET

With pump on press, and release, the button

Sometimes "Crud" gets into the valve and doing this will flush it out

others say it will dislodge the seal and it will never work right.. But it's not working right now, and thus you should not do that. BUT.. It's already not sealing, so if you damage the seal, you have done no additional harm.

I had the same problem when I de-winterized this spring.
When I winterized, I removed the screen and depressed the back flow to get anti-freeze into the city water hookup. Unfortunately, that pressure dislodged the O-ring on the backflow preventer and then it wouldn't seal properly, allowing water to leak out when using the on-board water and pump. (which I didn't discover until this spring).

I tried removing the screen and triggering the back flow preventer with my finger a couple of times but that didn't fix anything. I ended up taking the city water fixture out, disconnecting it from the plumbing and looking inside. Sure enough, the O-ring was cattywampus. I simply re-seated the O-ring and replaced everything and it now works fine. A bit of a pain to do all this, but not difficult and didn't take much handy-man know how.

As as a salute to this forum: I came here once I discovered the problem, but didn't know it was the O-Ring. Searched around and found the information I needed to fix it. I also learned that triggering that back-flow to fill the city water fill with anti-freeze isn't smart, as the pressure can and sometimes does dislodge the O-ring. Now I will fill the city water fill from the outside using a pump.

Be prepared to get wet. IMO a piece of sand or debris has gotten lodged in the check valve preventing it from seating, thus behaving as you described.

When you look at the city water connection you should see a seal with a screen. Remove that and with the pump on push in on the little tab in the middle. Water will shoot out and hopefully clear the seat. Don't forget to put the seal with the screen back. (this as I've described should be part of your winterizing process.) If this doesn't solve the issue do as others have said and plug it or replace.

As far as grey water goes a dripping faucet, even a slow drip will fill her up in short order.

Lazy man's fix: put a cap on it. I've had one on mine for a few years now.

I have never connected to city water so I'm tempted to eliminate that inlet entirely.

The city water inlet should be screwed to the side of your RV. Take those screws out. Cut the caulk sealing that unit and the whole city water inlet should pull out from the side of the RV several inches. You will see the back check valve connected to the back of the city water inlet, with the plumbing line attached to the back of the back check valve.

It is the back check valve you need to replace, not the washer.

Sorry, I did not take pictures when I replaced mine.

Are you saying just take out the city water inlet washer and repair or is it the one inside the trailer there are pictures of both.The water pressure is fine it's just when I use the water pump the water shoots out the city water inlet

It wouldn't be illegal, just one more step. It's there for a reason. The reason is to keep the pump from pumping your water out of it.
