What to do about floor vents?

We like to go barefoot. These things are SHARP. Also I see the potential to lose "things" to them. The ones I have are in awkward positions to just cover with floor rugs.

Any suggestions. They are only for heat, not the AC.
  • I don't remember what department in Wal-Mart had the register covers. Seems like it was home accessories. Not all WM may have them. Good luck.
  • Guys thanks for all the ideas. Looks like I might be searching my nearest Walmart!
  • I found small magnetic covers at WalMart the correct size that stick to the registers. They were made specifically for this type situation. They're even printed to look like registers. Keeps stuff from falling in and are easy on the feet as well. If we use the furnace, they are extremely easy to remove.
  • you can cut screen material to put in the floor registers to keep stuff from falling thru.
  • Well we did 2 things.......after I stepped on one and busted it we purchased better quality thick laser cut registers that can be closed
AND cut to fit some magnetic sign material to place over them when not in use. The signage was white so GF used some craft paint to do a design on them that matched carpet color
  • We weren't used to them at first but now they're just part of the environment.
  • You could replace them with either wood or plastic from a box store. You can close the vents when not in use.
