Furnace floor vents

As other have said, you can get adjustable vents that are readily available at Home Depot, etc.

The issue with using these is that the system needs to be balanced to allow a minimum air flow from the furnace. You might chat with a HVAC guy to help you determine what is needed, or to have him/her actually "balance" the system for several different configurations?

But, in reality, it probably doesn't matter much. . . Most of these systems are not that sophisticated.

You can shut them both. You will have plenty of air flow through the kitchen and living room vents.

We just put a throw rug over the bedroom vent if it gets to be too much. Or the dogs bed. Easy to rearrange on those nights when we do want the extra warmth.

Your bathroom vent probably isn't making that much difference anyway, assuming you leave the bathroom door closed. No return vent in there, and the only return path is probably the gap under the door. Layouts vary of course so YMMV.

I added two vents to the main living area. Removed two of the furnace side vent knockouts and connected the vent tube to a new register through the front of the cabinet. Much better.

Although I did this because the OEM main floor vents did not provide enough air to keep the furnace from cycling on the high temperature limit switch.

Shutting off one vent is no problem.

How about if I shut off just one vent, bathroom or bedroom ????

High temp limit switch should shut down furnace .... they range from 130*F to 190*F set points depending on furnace btu rating.

Furnace would probably 'short cycle' if not enough air flow due to too many registers closed off.

We have a vent that is right at the bottom of the stairs going to the bedroom. It is right where you step on my it coming down the steps. The cheap construction of it, fins broke out of it. I bought a replacement on Amazon, and it will close off, which is real handy, because that vent is right below the thermostat. When the furnace came on, it blew right up on the thermostat, shutting the furnace off before it should. So that vent is now closed most of the time.
