Drew.. I am aware of HTTPS.. but well, as a former Paid Professional Paranoid (yes it really was part of my job description) I wonder how "S" Https is...

That said, I've never had a problem I could track to ON-LINE hacking.. I have had issues that traced to a retail outlet re-using my card info... As have others I know, but that does not require on-line hacking at all.

One case the hacking was done with a xerox and another a pen.

On one of those the UPS person who delivered the goods illegally ordered...

Well she was 1: The card holder of the card used and 2: A Michigan State Trooper under cover of a UPS uniform... OOPS... The next delivery that truck made was to the city jail.

It does not matter whether your connection to the park's access point is unencrypted so long as you have a secure (https) connection to your bank or whomever. All an eavesdropper could see is gibberish. That is true regardless of whether the connection is wired or wireless.

One important but rare exception: if you have to accept a root certificate to use an access point, run away.

That said..... I've never had any cause to think that has been a problem

But only ONE CG I stay at has the kind of people I would suspect of hacking. and in that CG.. Well... I have my Cellular Data.

I'm also getting to the point where I don't do much via Wi-Fi any more (Banking that is) . But that's has nothing to do with this thread, Just simplifying my life.

Take it up with Bank of America's Security Division. They issued the warning. In writing. With the monthly statement.

CG wifi = cr*p. Verizon mifi = pretty good. Extenders = useless for extending a weak signal.

Verizon's coverage doesn't work everywhere tho. but has what is supposed to be the best in the US. Once or twice a year we end up having to use the CG wifi which is painfully slow in comparison, even when it's working at optimum. Kids wake up in the morning and log onto wifi and kill it. Most of us older types just wanna check some emails. We have a Verizon pay as you go plan and just top it up as needed in the summer months when we're RV-ing.

Make sure to take some good board games or books to read 'cuz sometimes you can't get internet or TV (OTA, CATV or sat) or cell phone. :E

Total BS. Never has anyone ever posted a verifiable report on these forums that they actually had any personal information compromised by using a campground wifi system. Your personal data is much more likely (by a factor in the thousands) of being stolen by hackers targeting a large merchant (think Target), a large internet company (think Yahoo) or a credit card processor themselves (think Global Payments). Then there are all sorts of scams involving retail clerks, fake card readers at ATMs and Gas Stations, stealing your information out of your snail mail box and you just plain responding to phishing emails. If your bank's URL shows https, and they all do, it is safe to conduct business no matter what public system your are logged on to.

We have android phones but we generally use our Verizon jet pak. Cg wifi is not realiable at most cg's.

As far as tv, if the cg has cable we hook up to it, if not we use the antennae. Generally we do not watch a lot of tv anyway so we really don't worry about reception quality.

I have a mifi by verizon that work pretty good.

Very few RV parks will have adequate bandwidth for guests to stream video entertainment. You need to bring your own bandwidth, sometimes not easy because when you get far enough into the boonies to make RV parks economic, you are often also outside the coverage areas of highest bandwidth urban networks.
