Would You Buy A Gas RV If You Had To Do It All Over Again?

With the new 6 speed transmission, the V10 will probably scream a little less. And certainly not for the same length of time.

Correction: It was a pickup truck engine. Now you can only get it in the the bigger Ford trucks... (Is an F-750 considered a MDT?)

I don't own a ford or a V-10, but I assure you, You have been watching too many you tubes. That screaming is only the thing working like its supposed to!
I've seen the 8.1 and V-10 in class "A"s and they are good engines!
Who said its a pick up truck engine anyway?
I have a 6.0 in my 2500HD and it screams when it climbs but I love the sound!

Uhmmm, as opposed to a 460cid V8? Or a Chevy Vortec V8? Both of which are used, just like the Triton, in a million + RVs on the road every single day for decades?

I bought a new gas over a used diesel for a floorplan with bunks that fits my family, but also the budget. We have young kids and plan to weekend and vacation in it, hard to find a used diesel with a floorplan like the 364 TS from Georgetown.

I was quite pleasantly surprised by the lack of noise so far on the V10 with 6 spd trans. I hear about yelling at your passenger, etc but so far on level ground I'm at 2050 rpm for 60 or 65mph so cruising speed is quiet. I have not driven mountains, but in rolling terrain it's has yet to downshift more than one gear and that is not often.

I had a diesel F250 so I understand the torque curves and benefits, but the v10 is more than adequate for what I need. If I won a free one and got to pick a new gas or diesel I think you would still know he answer though...

The difference is all about the turbo.

Our previous truck was a non-turbo diesel. Crossing the 11,000ft pass just west of denver WITHOUT the trailer and no cargo in the bed, it was all it could do to maintain 45mph. It simply couldn't get enough air.

Converserly, if you have the new Ford Eco-boost (a turbocharged gasoline engine), it won't have an issue towing at altitude for the same reason the newer diesels don't have an issue...they have turbos raming air into the engine to compensate for the thin air.

A turbocharged carburated engine would also be quite happy at altitude but it's been something like 30-40yrs since the manufacturers all switched to fuel injection.

If you want a big class A and can afford the diesel go for it.

I have a small class C, by choice, and the V10 is perfectly fine. It is not typically screaming except for brief passing or briefly on steep mountain roads. But generally the RPM is in the 2000-3600 range. I have no concerns with the engine at all. The engine does not annoy me at all.
