2015 Toyota Highlander V-6 All Wheel Drive Towing

I am interested in towing a 2014 or 2015 Highlander V-6 SUV with All Wheel Drive. According to the Remco website, this vehicle can be towed using their Lube Pump Kit #LP-BK01-018. Their webpage shows that this vehicle has a 6 speed transmission with a transmission code of U660E (for which they have the lube pump previously noted). According to TOYOTA, the 2014 & 2015 Highlander V-6 AWD has a transmission code of U660F ("F" as in Frank) whereas the Front Wheel Drive Highlander V-6 has a transmission code with an "E" at the end. When I called Remco, I was advised that they do not make (or have not tested) a Lube Pump Kit for the "F" transmission. They advised that I may only use their LP-BK01-018 lube kit on a transmission code U660E, not U660"F" although their website implies that they have a lube kit for a V-6 AWD and that it is an "E" coded transmission.
My question is this: is there anyone out there towing a 2014 or 2015 Highlander V-6 All Wheel Drive using a Remco Lube Kit, and if so, do you know what Remco Model lube kit you have installed? Thanks so much for your help.
  • Thanks one and all. I purchased a used Toyota Rav-4 as there is no lube pump for the Highlander. Thanks again, and safe travels.
  • Also Lincoln MKX, Lincoln MKT, Buick Enclave, Cadillac SRX. My 2003 Acura MDX was AWD and towable, but the new ones aren't.

Well, thank you (all) for enlightening me. It is good to know that there are indeed AWD vehicles that can be towed 4 down.

I may be full of baloney, I don't claim to be an expert, but I've never heard of an AWD vehicle that could be towed 4 down, although I have a Jeep that has a transfer case that allows you to shift between 2 WD, 4-Hi, 4-Lo, and AWD that can be towed 4 down by putting the transfer case in neutral and the transmission in Park. If I'm not mistaken, the Highlander does not have a transfer case with a neutral position, nor does it offer old-style 4WD, which is what makes the Jeep work. All the "straight AWD" vehicles I know about, bad things happen if you attempt to tow 4 down. Just sayin', and if you find out otherwise, I'd like to know.

  • Although I can't help you with your current model Toyota, I can tell you that we have a 2002 Highlander all wheel drive outfitted with a Remco Lube Pump.
We have towed this vehicle over 60,000 miles without incidence.
  • You can tow Subaru AWD with manual tranny. Some GM AWD e.g. Hummer have neutral tow function .

Sorry I don't know about the Yota. Likely the E F variants are minor changes but I would not buy one to be the test pilot of that theory.
